Friends of Hospice San Antonio was organized in 1991 by a small group of volunteers concerned with the availability of hospice services, helping to ensure no one is denied care due to their inability to pay. Over three million dollars has been raised for hospice patients.
Fundraising dollars come from membership dues, grants, memorials, and year round events and activities. Donations obtained from fundraising events are used to support uninsured and underinsured patients.

Friends of Hospice partners with the only non-profit hospice in the San Antonio area, CHRISTUS VNA Hospice and Palliative Care San Antonio, to provide care for the uninsured and furnishings for the CHRISTUS Sister Mary Hospice Center. Education partners include CHRISTUS Continuing Care and Trinity University.
A prayer book is available for hospice patients and family members, as well as other interested persons. Friends of Hospice provide refreshments for families attending the annual CHRISTUS VNA Hospice Memorial Service.
